Gloria Watkins, better known as bell hooks, to be remembered during Women’s History Month

Several local organizations will come together to honor the late bell hooks during Women’s History Month in March.

One of the most accomplished natives to ever come from Hopkinsville, renowned author and feminist Gloria Jean Watkins, better known by her pen name of bell hooks, died in December at the age of 69.

Museums of Historic Hopkinsville Executive Director Alissa Keller appeared on WHOP Thursday and says the focus locally on Women’s History Events will be on the life and accomplishments of hooks.

She says Hopkinsville Community College and the Visitor’s Center will be among those participating.

The Human Rights Commission will focus their March reading activities on one of hooks’ better-known books.

There will also be several features that air on WHOP on the life and accomplishments of bell hooks during March. Keller says family members and loved ones of hooks have been involved with planning the activities.
