Legislators talk budget, consumer privacy, ‘anti-swatting’ bill

Monday begins week 7 of the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly and while several notable bills have passed, several top priorities remain.

Priority No. 1 is the budget and Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke expects the Senate to get an executive budget to a conference committee by early March and says the House is working now on a transportation budget.

Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County says his top priority is a consumer privacy bill that establishes laws to protect online privacy and it will be presented at an informational committee meeting this week.

Representative Walker Thomas supported the “anti-swatting” bill that passed the House last week, as it makes it a felony to call 911 with a false report or prank to get a police SWAT team response to an innocent person’s home.

Lawmakers are working a full five-day week as the session is nearing its halfway point.
