Lawmakers discuss budget, transportation priorities

Winter weather meant the Kentucky legislature worked a four-day week as lawmakers are a little over a third of the way through the 60-day session.

The House has already approved a two-year budget for the commonwealth and state Senator Whitney Westerfield says the Senate’s budget committee has been analyzing the House and governor’s version of the spending plan.

Both chambers still have to pass a transportation budget and state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says his priorities will be further widening of KY 115 between Pembroke and Oak Grove and improvements at Lafayette Road and Lovers Lane with construction set to begin on the new high school at the east end of Lovers Lane.

Representative Walker Thomas says more tornado relief legislation is in the works for communities hit hard by the severe weather and he was among western Kentucky caucus members who recently met with the governor’s senior advisor on tornado recovery priorities.

You can hear local legislators discuss these issues and others during our weekly legislative update program at 9 a.m. Sunday on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com.
