The Kentucky legislature approved the ‘Caregiver Bill” this week as the first month of the 2022 General Assembly session comes to an end.
Senate Bill 100 would make family members, guardians, friends, pastors, clergy and other individuals essential caregivers and would permanently allow them to visit residents of long-term care, assisted living and mental health facilities.
State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke supported the measure, saying it’s imperative for long-term care residents to be able to see their loved ones.
Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County also supported the measure that gained bi-partisan support in both chambers.
Westerfield says the Western Kentucky Caucus heard from Governor Andy Beshear’s senior advisor, Rocky Adkins this week and he updated them on tornado recovery efforts.
Senator Westerfield says Christian County did not have any unmet needs listed by the governor’s office and he immediately contacted local leaders after the meeting to ask them for information on how the state can help with tornado recovery in Pembroke, south Christian County and Hopkinsville.
