The nation as a whole is facing a shortage of blood, and the western Kentucky Regional Blood Center is putting out the call for donations locally.
Beth Lancaster with the blood center spoke with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville Tuesday, and says they are facing a critical shortage, which is a real problem. People depend on that stock of blood for numerous things, from bad vehicular accidents to necessary surgeries, and due to COVID-19 and other factors, donations have slowed tremendously. The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center is responsible for supplying around 250,000 people with blood.
Lancaster says people are always welcome to come into the center on South Virginia Street and donate, and she gave a brief run down of the guidelines needed to do so.
She says there are even multiple ways you can donate—such as donating for yourself ahead of time, when you know a surgery is coming up.
For more information on how to donate, or for those interested in hosting a blood drive at their business or agency, call the center at (270) 885-0728.
