Fredonia man charged with local auto theft

Cantrell

Hopkinsville police charged a man Monday morning with felony auto theft.

An arrest citation for 26-year old Terry Cantrell of Fredonia says he was already in the Christian County Jail when a Hopkinsville police officer went to interview him Monday about a license plate from a stolen car being found on a vehicle driven by the mother of his child in Clarksville.

The owner of the stolen vehicle told HPD early last month that Cantrell had taken their 2008 Chevy Impala and the license plate to the car was recovered during a traffic stop by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

When confronted with that information, police say Cantrell eventually told officers he had been given permission to drive the car, but wouldn’t say where he left it.

Cantrell was charged with felony auto theft (more than $1,000, but less than $10,000).
