It’s certainly not the snowstorm that other parts of the country are getting, but a mixture of sleet, snow and freezing rain this morning has caused several accidents and slippery road conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for Christian, Todd, Trigg and Calloway counties and for Stewart and Montgomery counties until 3 p.m. Farther into middle Tennessee, there is a Winter Storm Warning today for greater snow accumulations and Nashville and Roberston County are included.
Up to an inch of wintry accumulation is expected in the Hopkinsville, Elkton and Cadiz areas.
Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sanderson had been busy working multiple non-injury accidents on the south end of I-24 this morning and said back roads and main routes, including I-24 and the Pennyrile Parkway, were icy.
Deputy Sanderson says anyone who can stay at home this morning should avoid traveling until road conditions improve later in the day.
Dispatchers in Todd and Trigg counties reported roads there to be slick in spots, but there had been no weather-related accidents as of about 6:30 a.m.
Todd County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Turner reported many roads there to be “deceptively slick” in places, noting the pavement will be wet in places and then covered in ice. He urges anyone who can to stay at home until temperatures warm later in the day and allows for melting.
