Lawmakers discuss tornado relief, pandemic measures

If there’s anything Republican legislators and the governor agree on, it’s the recently passed and signed legislation providing relief to western Kentucky residents and communities affected by the December 10 and 11 tornados.

House Bill 5 sends $200 million in relief efforts to the region and Ninth District state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says communities like Dawson Springs and Mayfield are in dire need—as are their residents.

Third District State Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County says there may have to be additional relief for temporary housing needs.

Meanwhile, the pandemic continues to also being a major issue facing Kentucky in addition to recent disasters and Eighth District Representative Walker Thomas notes Senate Bill 25 recently passed both chambers and it extends some f the pandemic orders—including allowing additional non-traditional instruction days for school districts.
