Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on COVID-19 and signed tornado relief legislation into law during a press conference Thursday morning.
The bill includes $200 million in assistance. An initial $15 million will be used for temporary housing and $30 million for schools, and more rounds of aid will be allocated later. Governor Beshear says this was a bi-partisan effort that put aside politics to bring immediate help to Kentucky families who badly need it.
77 Kentuckians died in the tornadoes that hit western Kentucky communities on December 10 and 11.
Omicron continues its surge through the Commonwealth, with Governor Beshear saying this week will likely beat last week in the number of newly report COVID cases—and last week was already a record high.
He once again urged everyone who can to get vaccinated or get the booster shot, if you haven’t already, as they continue to prove to be effective at keeping you from becoming badly sick or dying from COVID-19.
Hospitalizations are starting to increase, along with the number of individuals in the ICU or on a ventilator, with the governor saying he has already once again deployed the National Guard to assist those medical practices that are struggling the worst.
