Roads remain hazardous in some locations following Thursday’s heavy snow event and a night of near zero temperatures, and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to stay off the roads if they can.
Deputy Chris Miller says many secondary roads were a sheet of ice in the morning, and with temperatures unlikely to make it above freezing Friday, they’ll probably stay that way, making travel treacherous.
He says they understand that some folks must get out, to go to work or other necessities, but if you don’t have to, they ask you stay home to allow road crews more time to do their work.
Crews focus first on high-priority routes such as interstates and critical roadways, then heavily traveled state routes before turning to lower-volume routes.
Temperatures in the teens make salt and other road treatments less effective, so it may take time for roads to be cleared fully. Saturday’s highs in the mid-40’s combined with rain that night should have most of the snow out of here by Sunday.
