Winter Storm Warning Thursday, significant travel impacts likely

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for Christian, Todd, Trigg, Montgomery and all surrounding Kentucky and Tennessee counties as predicted snowfall amounts have increased.

Public schools in Christian, Todd, Trigg and every other area county are closed to in-person instruction, in addition to UHA, Heritage Christian, Sts. Peter and Paul and Fort Campbell Schools. Hopkinsville Community College, Murray State University and Austin Peay State University are also closed.

The forecast is now for four to six inches of snow and Chris Noles with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the snow should reach the southern Pennyrile region between 8 and 10 a.m.

He says the largest impacts and heaviest snowfall amounts of four to six inches will be areas Trigg County and east—including Cadiz, Hopkinsville and Elkton.

Bitterly cold temperatures will follow the snow, with low temperatures Friday morning to be in the single digits and the wind chill will make it feel near zero or below.

Be sure to give yourself more time to reach your destination if you must travel today and be prepared with a supply kit in case you become stranded.

Pets should have food, an unfrozen supply of water and a place to take refuge from the elements.
