Witty Lane stabbing case heads to the grand jury

The case against the man charged with assault in connection with a Christmas Day stabbing incident on Witty Lane as been sent to the grand jury, while the suspect will be allowed to take part in work release.

Benito Bautista appeared before District Judge Lindsey Adams for a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, but the preliminary hearing was waived by defense attorney Sands Chewning. Chewning also requested that Bautista be allowed to work while incarcerated.

Judge Lindsey Adams granted that request with the requirement that he wear an ankle monitor and that his place of employment will be responsible for getting him to and from the Christian County Jail.

Bond was left at $50,000—his case now goes to the grand jury for consideration of possible indictment.

Bautista is accused of stabbing a man in a relationship with his estranged wife at a residence on Witty Lane on Christmas Day multiple times, sending him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
