Austin Peay trailed by five points with 43 seconds remaining in the game and cut UT Martin’s lead to one before falling 65-62. The Governors were without head coach Nate James-who tested positive for COVID. Austin Peay was led by the duo of redshirt freshman Caleb Stone-Carrawell and freshman Elijah Hutchins-Everett who each scored in double figures.
Stone-Carrawell notched his first career double-double with 15 points to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds. Hutchins-Everett also had 15 points. The freshman center scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half. The Governors are now 4-7 and 0-1 in the OVC and play at Southeast Missouri tomorrow.
Women: Trailing by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter, Austin Peay was able to cut the deficit to just five points with just over a minute remaining in the contest, but the comeback ran out of steam and the Governors fell to UT Martin 70-62 in their Ohio Valley Conference opener. Austin Peay’s four game winning streak ended as they fell to 7-4 and 0-1 in the OVC. Next up is a Saturday afternoon game at Southeast Missouri.
