Governor’s family visits, delivers gifts to tornado victims at state parks

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and his family were at Lake Barkley State Resort Park Thursday morning to hand out Christmas presents to those who are living there currently after being displaced by devastating tornadoes.

In a room lined with toys of all types, families were able to gather what their children wanted, in an effort to bring them a great Christmas despite the hardships they have faced, with many having had their lives uprooted by tornadoes.  Governor Beshear says everyone he spoke with is in the process of working with FEMA to rebuild, and it seems despair is slowly giving way to hope.

First Lady Beshear, who established the toy drive, says it’s been truly humbling to see these resilient families push forward, and they deserve the best Christmas they can have.

She says she can’t thank those who donated to the cause enough, saying they were overwhelmed at the sheer number of gifts.

Along with more than enough presents to choose from, families were also able to wrap those presents on site, with the help of generous volunteers, including Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman, and Santa was on hand to make sure Christmas wishes were heard.

The Beshears also traveled to Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park to deliver gifts to families lodged there, and spread the Christmas cheer across western Kentucky.
