The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working with its contractors to remove as many construction zones from interstates and parkways as possible during the Christmas travel period.
District 1 Spokesman Keith Todd says the main improvement local motorists will notice is a significant reduction in the size of the I-24 work zone in Trigg and Caldwell counties.
The barrier wall is being taken down on the eastbound side of I-24 and the construction zone there has been cut approximately in half.
He says many people being able to work from home or anywhere else may mean some of the Christmas travel traffic will be spread out over a longer period of time.
If you are making a long journey this week, Todd says be sure to take periodic breaks from driving to prevent fatigue and to stay alert.
There’s a major construction zone that will not be taken down in Illinois that begins at the Ohio River, so folks headed toward St. Louis should expect delays.
