Former HHS band director pleads guilty to third-degree rape, sodomy

Former Hopkinsville High School Band Director Seth Peveler entered a guilty plea to multiple counts of third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy Tuesday in Christian Circuit Court.

Peveler appeared before Special Appointed Judge James Jameson alongside defense attorney Sands Chewning—Judge Jameson explained that the guilty plea to four counts of third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree sodomy and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor comes with a recommended seven-year sentence in total, with the Commonwealth opposing probation.

Peveler pled guilty to all nine counts, and a pre-sentencing investigation and a sex offender evaluation report will take place.

Peveler remains out on bond pending formal sentencing, which was set for April 29 at 1 p.m. Hannah Peveler, former Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney and Seth Peveler’s then wife, is facing charges of tampering with a witness in relation to the case. Special prosecutor Dennis Foust informed the court he intends to file a motion in her case soon.

Peveler had multiple sexual encounters with students at his home and at the school in 2017 and 2018, during which he was in a position of authority or special trust over his victims.
