Hoptown wins, UHA and Christian County lose Monday

Play got underway Monday in the City of Hopkinsville/Toyota Classic at Hopkinsville High’s Tiger Gym.

Bowling Green defeated University Heights in the opening game 65-53. The Blazers got 14 points from Gavin Grubbs and 10 from Preston Thomas in defeat in falling to 2-5. Bowling Green’s Turner Buttry led all scorers with 30 points as the Purples improved to 7-0.

Hopkinsville crushed Northwest 80-53. The Tigers had four players in double figures led by Bubba Leavell’s 18 points with KC Cabiness adding 15, Olajawon White pitched in 12 and Daisjuan Mercer added 10. Hopkinsville is now 3-2 on the season.

Christian County lost to Central in the nightcap 61-53. Jordan Miles led the Colonels with 14 points with Derrell Bateman and KJ Vaughn each adding 12 as Christian County fell to 2-4 on the season.

Today’s Games: Christian County opens play meeting Bowling Green at 3 pm, followed by UHA and Northwest at 5 pm and Hopkinsville hosts Central at 7. F&M Bank pregame coverage for all three games begins 15 minutes before scheduled tipoff times on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
