MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 12/17/21

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs are maintaining their lead in the crowded AFC West. Patrick Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for a 34-yard touchdown in overtime as Kansas City beat the Chargers 34-28 last night. Mahomes and Kelce connected late in the fourth quarter to send the game to OT. The Chiefs improved to 10-and-4. LA drops to 8-and-6.

The Los Angeles Rams are getting hit hard with COVID-19. Los Angeles placed nine players on the COVID list Thursday, one of them being star linebacker Von Miller. That brings the Rams’ total up to 25 players on the COVID list. The Athletic is reporting that the Rams are working with the NFL and the Seattle Seahawks to weigh options about their game on Sunday.

NHL

Filip Forsberg scored twice in Nashville’s 5-2 win over Colorado last night. Tanner Jeannot, Roman Josi and Mattias Ekholm added goals as well. Juuse Saros made 24 saves and allowed two goals. The Predators play the Blackhawks in Chicago tonight.

Golf

Tiger Woods is set to play the PNC Championship golf event with his son Charlie less than a year after a serious car accident. The father-son event in Orlando runs through Sunday. The 15-time major champion has been teasing his return for a couple weeks. Louisville area native Justin Thomas and his father Mike are the defending champions.
