63 Homes impacted by Saturday morning tornado in Christian County

A total of 63 homes were damaged in some way by a tornado that plowed across the south side of Christian County.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble says assessment by Emergency Management and volunteers found 14 of those homes will likely be a total loss.

He sent his condolences to those in other Western Kentucky counties who have lost so much and says Christian County is very fortunate to have come out of the tornado outbreak with less than 10 injuries—all non-life-threatening.

Judge Tribble has made it known verbally to state and federal officials that the county is declaring a disaster and will file the appropriate paperwork Monday.

It isn’t immediately known exactly what the federal disaster declaration approval for Kentucky will mean, but Judge Tribble says the county will be prepared to utilize whatever assistance that might be provided.

Further assessments will determine how many businesses, out buildings, barns and other buildings were damaged or destroyed.

Judge Tribble noted that PADD’s annual Christmas meeting set for Monday at the Pennyrile Forest State Park was canceled, but the meal will still be prepared. PADD is donating that food to first responders and folks staying at the park who were affected by the tornadoes.
