Damage assessments continue after Christian County tornado

Emergency responders in Christian County spent Saturday assessing damage, helping neighbors and clearing debris after an apparent tornado plowed through the south end of the county early in the morning.

Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department Chief Nick Belair says they had found between 50 and 75 homes with severe damage and there were four injuries that did not require hospitalization in the Pembroke area.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble said Emergency Management and local fire departments were also assessing damage to homes in the Herndon area and elsewhere in the county.

Three people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including one minor, following the tornado in Christian County.

Pennyrile Electric crews remained out working to restore power to thousands of members put in the dark by multiple rounds of severe weather.
