Engineer says cracks at Todd County Courthouse result of regular settling, no reason for concern

Todd Fiscal Court heard the results of an engineer’s assessment on new cracks in the courthouse walls during its first meeting of December Friday morning.

Jeff Summers says engineer Charles Skaggs recently looked at the cracks on the northeast side of the building in the sheriff’s office and Ag. Extension office and determined they were from common settling and nothing to be overly concerned about.

The court took no action following the report.

Meanwhile, Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says he’s received several questions regarding why there was no Code Red call or siren activation during Monday morning’s tornadoes and noted the system was already out of the county five minutes after the only warning was issued by the National Weather Service.

There are now four confirmed homes with at least minor damage from Monday’s storms.

In other action, court accepted an amendment to the jail’s contract with Kellwell to increase the cost by 5 percent as expenses have gone up for the company that provides the jail with food services.
