Clearman Ct. murder suspect arraigned Friday morning

Arraignment was held Friday morning in Christian District Court for the man accused in the Thursday morning shooting death of 35-year old Stanley Bussell at a home on Clearman Court.

District Judge Foster Cotthoff entered a not guilty plea to the murder charge on behalf of 49-year old Bobby Spikes of Hopkinsville and set bond at half a million dollars.

Hopkinsville police allege Spikes and his girlfriend lured Bussell to a home on Clearman Court, where Spikes then fatally shot Bussell in the head.

Police say Bussell was a co-worker of Spikes’ girlfriend.

Spikes was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Friday and lodged in the Christian County Jail, but the shooting is believed to have happened sometime after midnight Thursday morning.

Kentucky State Police discovered the shooting scene on Clearman at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday as detectives investigated the killing of 34-year old Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville, whose body was found by a Trigg County deputy Thursday morning in a vehicle belonging to Bussell on Cerulean Road between Wallonia Road and Guinn Road in Trigg County.

KSP says they are working closely with HPD to investigate the deaths that are closely related. In an update, KSP confirmed the cause of death for Marcel to be a single gunshot wound, and her death is being investigated as a homicide.
