Miller takes plea deal in 2016 Oak Grove murder case

Both suspects involved in the July, 2016 shooting death of De’Andre Palmer in Oak Grove have now chosen to accept plea deals instead of proceeding to trial.

Twenty-four-year-old Leonardo Miller of Oak Grove pled guilty to murder, robbery, theft and tampering with evidence in Christian Circuit Court Thursday afternoon as part of a deal that Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling says comes with a recommended 40 year sentence.

Final sentencing was scheduled for January 12, 2022.

Trial for Miller had been set to begin on November 29.

His co-defendant, 23-year old Deqavion James of Oak Grove, accepted a deal earlier this year that comes with a 30-year sentence for his role in the killing.

According to the Commonwealth’s Plea Offer to James, on July 16, 2016,  James while armed with handgun, was told by co-defendant Leonardo Miller to shoot Palmer when given a nod. When Miler nodded to James, he pulled the trigger and shot Palmer once.  Palmer was then allegedly shot a second time by Miller and Palmer’s body was eventually discarded near Ghost Bridge on Carter Road.
