An Elkton man accused of abusing his wife is facing new charges after allegedly violating an EPO by contacting her dozens of times from jail.
Elkton police arrested 23-year old Jordan Hughes of Elkton November 5 on charges of first-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault after his wife reported that he had allegedly choked her on the previous day and wouldn’t allow her to leave the home.
She fled and reported the incident after he fell asleep, according to police.
An emergency protective order forbidding Hughes from contacting the victim was also served, but police say he contacted the woman numerous times.
Officer Jakop Smith charged Hughes with 72 additional counts of violating an EPO/DVO, stalking and intimidating a participant in the legal process at the jail on Saturday.
Hughes remains incarcerated and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Todd District Court Monday.
