VFW to host Veterans’ Day celebration Thursday

Veterans of Foreign War Post 1913 will be hosting their annual Veterans’ Day celebrations on Thursday, including the reading of the wining Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essays.

The local VFW hosts this essay contest every year and Post Commander John Brame says they had nearly 30 entries this year, with participants from multiple local schools, and each student gets a cash prize for their efforts.

Brame says they’re always happy to hear from local students about their thoughts on Veterans’ Day and other topics—there will also be lunch provided that day.

The event will start at 11 a.m., with many students on hand to receive their prizes and placements—judges just wrapped up the grading of the essays last week. The local VFW is located off Skyline Drive near Kroger.
