Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation and the Planter Bank-Jennie Stuart Hopkinsville Sportsplex were recognized as the top department and facility in the commonwealth at Friday’s Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society Awards Luncheon in Somerset.
The Parks and Recreation team was awarded the KRPS Department of the Year, marking the third time the team has earned the recognition in the last six years. A news release says with 11 full-time employees, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation stepped up in competition and won for the Class III category, designated for departments with 11-19 full-time staff members.
The previous two honors came in Class II, before the department added the Sportsplex staff upon opening the new facility. Award winners are not allowed to compete for the same award two years in a row.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman thanked the staff and community for the support that enabled the department to receive the recognition.
The Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Sportsplex took home the hardware for KRPS Facility of the Year, Class III. That honor marks a repeat for the Sportsplex, which won the same award for Class II in 2019, the building’s opening year.
