Hopkinsville City Council recognized the City Finance Division for once again being awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, and awarded grant funding to local agencies.
It will be the 27th year in a row the city finance department has earned the honor, with Mayor Wendell Lynch saying to not let that fool you into thinking it’s an easy thing to earn, as it is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Council approved $2 million of American Rescue Plan recovery funds to go towards the resurfacing and paving of city streets. Dave Herndon with the Street Division of Public Works says that money will really help get their streets back to good condition, allowing them to really focus on other street projects with Municipal Road Aid funds.
In other action, council approved a municipal order awarding $25,000 to the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville to repaint and repair the Hopkinsville clock tower, and $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville for technological upgrades at their facility. Those funds come from the T-Mobile Community Grant.
Council failed to pass a municipal order that would have put a payment of $231,094 from CARES Act funding into the general fund to the Future Pension Obligation Reserve, with several councilmembers saying they would like more information and an update on that funding before moving forward.
