College Sports

Marshall University has become the third school this week to announce plans to leave Conference USA for the Sun Belt Conference. It’s expected the Thundering Herd-who have been in CUSA since 2005-will join Southern Miss and Old Dominion in joining the SBC by July 1, 2023.
Conference USA will be down to five members when these and six others leave for the American Athletic Conference. Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee have yet to decide what their future plans may be.

MLB

Atlanta Braves ace pitcher Charlie Morton underwent surgery Thursday to repair his fractured right fibula. Morton suffered the injury in Game One of the World Series after being hit by a line drive. He’s expected to be back for spring training.

NFL

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel says wide receiver Julio Jones will not play in Sunday’s game at Indianapolis. Jones aggravated a previous hamstring injury in last week’s home win against Kansas City.
