Members of the Kentucky National Guard are deploying to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to help provide non-clinical assistance as they navigate through a surge of COVID patients.
According to a news release from Hospital Spokesman Chris Jung, approximately a dozen guard members will start providing assistance at 9 a.m. on Monday. This comes as a part of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s September 13 deployment of the guard to over 20 statewide hospitals to provide support and assume non-medical, logistical and administrative tasks to alleviate the pandemic’s stress on Kentucky’s healthcare infrastructure.
The 11 assigned Guard members, who will be dressed in their duty uniform, will provide similar assistance during a Hopkinsville stay that is scheduled to last about two weeks.
National Guard soldiers must follow specific guidelines while present at the facility—the men and women on site will not be able to act as security, are not allowed to provide direct patient care and may not come in contact with a known COVID patient.
