Johnson Central football coach Matney dies from COVID

Tributes are pouring in from across the state for Johnson Central head coach Jim Matney who died today following complications related to COVID. Matney’s sister in law said in a statement he died peacefully with his family by his side. Matney had been the Golden Eagles head coach since 2004 and led them to five consecutive state final appearances from 2015-19 winning the 2016 and 2019 championships. Matney was also Johnson Central’s wrestling coach.
