Local YMCA working to provide tutoring, meals to local students

The Family YMCA of Hopkinsville has been working hard to provide for children and families in the community, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Joe Wilson with the YMCA appeared on WHOP recently and says they take pride in being more than just an exercise facility, saying they focus on outreach, including a recent tutoring program that students of all ages can take advantage of.

He says the YMCA has been providing meals for a long time to those in need in the community, and that has only increased during the last year or so.

Wilson says they’ve just started a ‘backpack’ program—which provides children with a backpack full of food to take home for the weekend—and they’re hoping to expand it soon.

The YMCA is always accepting donations to help keep programs like this, along with many others, going to benefit children and others in the community.  For more information on how to get involved, or to donate, contact the YMCA at (270) 887-5382.
