After trailing 6-0 through five innings, Cincinnati clawed back within a run before ultimately losing 6-5 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds are a half-game back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the final NL Wild Card spot. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh play again this evening with pregame at 5:05 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Elsewhere in the National League
The St. Louis Cardinals edged the New York Mets 7-6 in 11 innings. Edmundo Sosa hit an RBI single and Andrew Knizner added a two-RBI single that gave St. Louis a three-run lead. The Mets were able to score two runs in the bottom of the 11th, but it wasn’t enough. The teams play again tonight in New York.

The Chicago Cubs snapped a three game losing skid doubling up the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3. The series continues tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Adam Duvall hit a two-run homer in the eighth but it wasn’t enough as the Atlanta Braves fell 5-4 to the Colorado Rockies. The Braves remain four-and-a-half games up on the Phillies in the NL East. The series continues tonight in Atlanta.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are booking their ticket into the postseason. Tony Gonsolin threw five shutout innings as Los Angeles beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4, becoming the second team to make the post season.

One of the best players in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers is calling it quits. Ryan Braun announced his retirement on Tuesday in a video released by the Brewers. Braun was the 2011 NL MVP, made six All-Star games and is the Brewers franchise home run leader with 352 career bombs. Braun played all 14 of his MLB seasons with Milwaukee.
