Local legislators believe school masking decisions should be up to boards, superintendents

It’s now up to school boards and superintendents across Kentucky to decide on whether to require masking in school buildings and that’s where local lawmakers believe the decision should lie.

Legislation approved during the special session of the Kentucky General Assembly did away with the Kentucky Board of Education mandate after the Supreme Court ruled the governor’s mandate unconstitutional.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville believes it should be a local decision.

State Senator Whitney Westerfield says that’s a decision to be made with local data by local leaders.

Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke notes the General Assembly also extended the state of emergency until January 15, allowing the state to pursue federal assistance when it’s needed.

Hear from all three local lawmakers at about 9:15 Sunday morning following the local VFW 9/11 service on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com.
