Two arrested on felony drug charges following traffic stop

A traffic stop on Russellville Road Thursday night led to the arrests of two people on felony drug charges.

Hopkinsville police stopped 37-year-old Joshua Colwell of Hopkinsville for speeding a few minutes before 8 p.m. and an arrest citation says there was an odor of marijuana coming from the car.

As his passenger, 32-year-old Heather Ballard of Hopkinsville, removed an infant from the rear of the vehicle, police say a hypodermic needle was observed in plain view in the floorboard.

Further investigation allegedly led to the discovery of heroin, a digital scale and drug paraphernalia.

A search of Ballard’s purse reportedly turned up methamphetamine and pills.

Colwell was arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, while Ballard was arrested and charged with possession of meth, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.
