Gov. Beshear says state looking to support struggling hospitals

Governor Andy Beshear says Kentucky is in a dangerous place in the pandemic as the number of those sick and in hospitals continues to go up each day.

During his weekly Thursday briefing, the governor said Kentucky has gone 42 straight days of increasing hospitalizations, taxing many facilities.

He says one-third of Kentucky hospitals are reporting critical staffing shortages.

The National Guard is being utilized to boost healthcare capacity in critical needs areas, FEMA is sending 15 ambulances and 30 crew members to assist with EMS transports and Governor Beshear says other measures are being taken to help increase hospital capacity where and when it’s possible.

The governor and everyone else who spoke reiterated that we now have the tools to fight back against the spike in COVID, with three different safe and effective vaccines available. He’s also reminding Kentuckians to mask up when indoors with crowds and away from home.
