Christian Fiscal Court approves slight decrease to property tax rate

Christian Fiscal Court unanimously approved first reading of a property tax ordinance Tuesday morning that actually decreases the rate slightly.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble says the rate will drop by one tenth of a penny to 18.6 cents per $100 of a assessed value, meaning the owner of a $100,000 home would pay a dollar less if the assessed valuation of their property hasn’t gone up in the last year.

The homestead exemption is also going up some, which will benefit those who qualify.

The ordinance will be heard on second and final reading when fiscal court meets September 14.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace gave her monthly report, noting 338 cats and dogs found homes in July.

In other action, magistrates approved the annual application for $61,000 in litter abatement grant funds.
