Greenville Road murder suspect expected to testify at trial

The attorney for Anshanique Leavell says he expects her to testify at her trial for the 2019 shooting death of Amareya’ Freeman.

Leavell appeared virtually for a hearing Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court and attorney Michael Thompson told Judge John Atkins that he and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling have been unable to come to a plea deal.

Trial is set for Thursday morning and Boling filed a motion to prevent Thompson from alluding to several specific items, but Thompson says Leavell will give her own testimony about being remorseful for Freeman’s death and he plans to preview that in his opening statements.

Leavell is accused of shooting Freeman in the chest at an apartment on Greenville Road on June 6 of 2019 and is charged with murder, receiving stolen property and complicity to tampering with physical evidence.

Thirteen jurors, including one alternate, will be chosen Thursday morning before opening statements and testimony begins.
