KYTC praises local responders for helping with traffic during I-24 incident

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is praising local agencies for their help in diverting traffic when I-24 was closed this week in Trigg County by a tractor-trailer accident and fire.

Spokesman Keith Todd says first responders in Caldwell, Trigg and Christian County had to jump into action and Christian County Emergency Management and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office closed I-24 at the Pennyrile Parkway until the accident scene in the Trigg County construction zone was cleared.

The two-lane work zone is likely to remain in place between the 55 and 65 mile-markers until a little before Christmas and it’s a narrow fit for many commercial vehicles.

There is traffic congestion and delays in the construction zone even when there are no additional issues and Todd says there are multiple alternate routes one can take and not add much time to your journey.

Todd says the Transportation Cabinet will be looking back at what worked and what didn’t this week to plan for future incidents when the interstate has to be closed.
