Tractor-trailer hauling pigs overturns on I-24, driver injured, major traffic issues created

A tractor-trailer loaded with 117 pigs crashed and overturned early Wednesday morning on I-24 in Christian County, causing major traffic issues and sending the driver by helicopter to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sanderson says the out of state man had non-life-threatening facial injuries after the crash that happened about 4 a.m.

I-24 has one lane open in both directions at the 82 mile-marker due to the crash and motorists can self-detour if they want to avoid the congestion.

Another driver hit one of the pigs that was freed by the crash, but that person was not hurt.
