Western Kentucky is under a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. today as some of the hottest weather of the summer settles into the area this week.
Anyone working outdoors today should remember to drink plenty of water and to take frequent breaks in a shady area or indoors, when possible. Also be sure any outdoor pets have a supply of fresh water and shade to take refuge from the heat.
Christine Wielgos with the National Weather Service in Paducah said during Monday’s regular conference call that while the hottest weather will be felt closer to the Mississippi River this week, all of Western Kentucky will experience heat index values at 100 or more for multiple days.
The long-term outlook for next week shows a slight possibility for warmer than average temperatures and a forecast for near normal precipitation.
There’s a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms through Tuesday evening, though a major outbreak is not expected.
