After accepting a plea deal earlier this summer for a December stabbing incident on South Main Street, 51-year-old John Chambers received his sentence Monday in Christian Circuit Court.
Chambers pled guilty to second-degree assault for the December 26, 2020 incident near the Manhattan Motel, where he stabbed Maurice Catlett in the arm multiple times during an argument, sending him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
He also pled guilty to one count of failing to comply with conditions of the sex offender registry.
Circuit Judge John Atkins went along with the plea deal Monday, sentencing Chambers to five years for the stabbing and two years for failure to comply for a total of seven years.
Public defender Eric Bearden represents Chambers and says he’ll be filing a motion for shock probation in future.
The judge and attorneys also noted Chambers has a pending case in North Carolina, but it’s unknown how that state will proceed as they’ve shown an unwillingness to extradite.
