Christian and Trigg County public schools will open the new year Wednesday with measures in place to prevent spread of COVID-19.
More than anything, Christian County School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel says he’s happy there’s no doubt about being back in buildings for in-person learning this year.
He says the mask mandate for students and staff inside those buildings was needed to not only keep people from getting sick, but to also prevent individuals from falling into a quarantine protocol.
Bentzel apologized for having to go back on a previous statement last month that it would be up to parents to decide whether their child would wear a facial covering and he hopes the mandate is short-lived.
The Trigg County School System announced its mask mandate Friday, saying it was due to a requirement from its insurance carrier. The mandates in both districts are for inside buildings and on the school bus, regardless of vaccination status.
Meanwhile, Cadiz police are asking parents to not drop their students off on the roadway at the crosswalks. They say the most common collisions on Main Street in Cadiz are rear end accidents and cars that stop on the roadway risk being rear-ended while passengers are exiting the vehicle.
