Todd County grand jury indicts two for sexual abuse charges

A Todd County grand jury on Wednesday returned indictments for sexual abuse charges against two men.

One is against 59-year-old Curt Cox of Elkton for 10 counts of first-degree sexual abuse against a minor under the age of 16 and two counts of second-degree sodomy. It alleges Cox inappropriately touched a juvenile’s genitals on multiple occasions in the spring of this year and that he engaged in forced sexual intercourse with an intellectually disabled individual.

The grand jury indicted 79-year-old Joseph Garrett of Lewisburg for first-degree sexual abuse against a victim under the age of 12. He’s accused of inappropriately touching a young girl in May of this year.

Another indictment for burglary, felony receiving stolen property and for being a persistent felony offender was returned against 33-year-old James Case of Hopkinsville.

A warrant obtained by the Elkton Police Department alleges that on February 11, Case stole several items out of a unit at Elk Fork Storage, including wheels and tires, fishing poles and tools. He’s also accused of being in possession of a stolen car in Todd County, with the Todd County Sheriff’s Department assisting in that investigation.

He’s also facing charges from Kentucky State Police in Christian County for allegedly sending inappropriate photos of a sexual nature to a juvenile in February.

The grand jury indicted Ashton Powell for criminal child abuse and felony assault, Hunter Whitaker for felony theft, Orville Messer for two counts of second-degree burglary, and Jeffrey Hurd for two count of second-degree burglary and for being a persistent felony offender.
