Todd Co. public health director concerned by surge in COVID cases

Todd County Public Health Director Jen Harris is concerned about the growing number of new COVID-19 cases in the area and says the time is now to get vaccinated.

There will be a monthly increase in new cases for the first time since April and Harris fears the surge caused by the Delta variant will lead to more hospitalizations and death.

Harris says if you haven’t gotten the vaccine and if you don’t have natural antibodies from a previous infection in the last 90 days, you are at high risk to become infected with the highly-contagious Delta variant.

She says many of the recent new cases have been travel-related.

She says while all 18 active cases in Todd County are isolating at home, many of them are very sick with significant symptoms. Moderna vaccines are available at the Todd County Health Department, Pfizer vaccines have been ordered and many primary care doctor’s offices can also now vaccinate patients, according to Harris.
