A walk-off single propelled Madisonville Miners to a decisive, dramatic victory over Hoptown Hoppers, 12-11. The game was tied at 11 with Madisonville Miners batting in the bottom of the ninth when Reed Latimer singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Latimer led Madisonville Miners to victory by driving in five runs. Latimer went 3-for-5 at the plate. Latimer drove in runs on a fielder’s choice in the first, a sacrifice fly in the third, a fielder’s choice in the fifth, a single in the eighth, and a single in the ninth.
In the first inning, Madisonville Miners got their offense started when Arlon Butts induced Latimer to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Hoptown Hoppers scored five runs in the eighth inning. Benjamin (B.J.) Banyon, Kurt Paldino, Patrick Walker, and Noah Brown each drove in runs during the inning.
Mikey Clements got the win for Madisonville Miners. The righty lasted two innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one and walking one. Gavin Knust threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Garrett Sagro took the loss for Hoptown Hoppers. The pitcher allowed zero hits and two runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one.
