Shots fired at police during Tennessee pursuit, suspects arrested

Shots were fired at police officers during a pursuit that began in Stewart County Sunday night and ended with arrests in Montgomery County.

The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office says deputies made a traffic stop about 8 p.m. at Highway 79 and Bagsby Hill and the driver took off again while a computer check was being completed on their license and registration.

One suspect in the vehicle fired three gunshots at a deputy’s vehicle during the pursuit in Stewart County and items were being tossed out of the suspect’s automobile.

The suspect fired a shot at a Montgomery County deputy once the pursuit crossed the county line and they rammed the Montgomery County sheriff’s office automobile.

One of the suspects got out on foot, but was soon caught by a Montgomery County Deputy with the help of a K9 unit. Clarksville police had advised people in the Calvert Drive and Britton Springs areas to shelter in place during the pursuit and gave the all clear soon after.

Police in Christian County were advised of the pursuit, but the vehicle never made it into Kentucky.

Both suspects who had been in the vehicle were arrested, but names of those involved have not yet been released.

No officers were reported to be injured in the pursuit.
