A Georgia woman was arrested Thursday morning after she allegedly assaulted a Hopkinsville police officer who had been attempting to help her.
An arrest citation for 37-year old Minerva Matos-Lee of Columbus, Georgia says the female officer saw her walking from the Parkway to Sivley Road and stopped to ask her if she needed help.
Matos-Lee reportedly said “I don’t know” and walked away, but took an aggressive stance and pulled away when the officer attempted to take her arm.
The officer unsuccessfully tried to tackle Matos-Lee and the report says the suspect then grabbed the officer’s throat and squeezed during an altercation.
It took two usages of a taser to get Matos-Lee in a position to be taken to the ground and she was then handcuffed.
She was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to be checked out and allegedly became aggressive again, punching the officer in the face.
Matos-Lee was jailed following evaluation at the hospital and charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer and menacing.
