Future Funding Committee to examine ways COVID relief funding can be used in city

Hopkinsville City Council approved an executive order at their most recent meeting that changes the directive of the Future Funding Committee to include discussions involving COVID-19 relief funding.

Mayor Wendell Lynch explained that the committee that was originally established to discuss what projects or initiatives would be recommended to spend funding will now examine what parameters COVID relief funding can be used for and will make recommendations to city council.

He says there’s a flexible time limit for the committee to work with, but they need to determine at least what the funding will be used for and have that information sent back to the Department of the Treasury.

The committee is being led by councilmember Amy Craig, and it falls into her discretion on when they will have their first meeting. Council also approved appointing councilmember Alethea West to serve on that committee.
