Sports Briefs 5/20/21

NBA

The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 100-96, in the nine-ten game of the Western Conference play-in tournament, and will face the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco tomorrow for the eighth and final playoff spot. Ja Morant had 20 points, six assists and six rebounds in the victory.
A win over the Warriors tomorrow would give the Grizzlies their first playoff berth since 2017 and result in a first-round matchup against the top seed Utah Jazz.

NHL

The Nashville Predators couldn’t get any of their 32 shots in goal as they were blanked by the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-0, in game two of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. The Preds were 0-for-7 on the power play after going 0-for-3 with the man advantage in game one. The Hurricanes lead the series 2-0 with game three tomorrow night in Nashville.

Golf

The second major of the season-the PGA Championship- begins today at the Ocean Course at Kiwah Island, SC. Louisville area native Justin Thomas tees off at 7:33 this morning. Collin Morikawa is the defending champion.

Princeton’s Emma Talley is in the field for the LPGA Tour’s Pure Silk Championship that begins today in Williamsburg, VA.
