The Nashville Predators fell to the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-2, in the opening game of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. Filip Forsberg opened the scoring and Erik Haula pulled the Preds level after two periods, but three unanswered Carolina goals in the third doomed them in the loss. Game two in Raleigh is tomorrow night, before the series shifts to Nashville on Friday.

NFL

The Tennessee Titans signed former Vanderbilt wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb yesterday while waiving two other players. Lipscomb was invited to the team’s rookie minicamp over the weekend. The 23-year-old went undrafted in 2020 and spent time on the Chiefs’ and Packers’ practice squads. The team let go of wide receiver Rashard Davis and linebacker Davin Bellamy.

Horse Racing

The New York Racing Association announced yesterday that trainer Bob Baffert is temporarily suspended from entering horses at Belmont Park and two other tracks. Baffert is under investigation for a failed post-race drug test by Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit. Prior to the ban, Baffert hadn’t committed to entering any horses into the Belmont Stakes, but he had many in consideration for other races on that day.
